Marching Band Welcome!

Marching Band Welcome!

Hi Everyone,

Marching Band starts this Monday 5/28!!! I cant believe its already here! All current band students will arrive at MHS at 8am. We will warm up, put on our uniforms and walk over to Oak Grove Cemetery. The ceremony starts at 10am for anyone who wants to come watch us. After the ceremony is completed we will head back to MHS, change out of our uniforms and have our annual Memorial Day Band Cookout! All new Marching Band members are invited to this cookout! If you know of anyone who is interested in joining please invite them! A letter was emailed out to all new band students/parents. I am including it here so that returning families can also get a reminder our summer dates. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday!! I cant wait to announce the Show!!!!

Good Afternoon Band Parents,

I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Haley Rello and I am the Medford Mustang Marching Band Director for the Medford Public Schools. I am contacting you because your child has expressed interest in joining the Marching Band for our 2018-2019 season. The band, band staff and band parent organization are very excited to have your student join us this year and want to welcome you to our band family!

Band starts this Monday 5/28 at our Memorial Day Cookout. All new potential band students will attend a free cookout at Medford High School around 12 noon provided by the Medford BPO. At this cookout they will get to meet the other band students, hear our 2018 show announced and pick up music.

There is a mandatory parent/student meeting on Wednesday June 13th at 6pm in the High School Theater where we will go over all of the paperwork/scheduling/equipment needs for the season. This is also a great forum to ask questions and meet the other band parents!

Spring Band Camp is 6/25-6/29 from 5:30-8:30pm in the High School Band Room. We will have a full staff this week and will go over lots of basics and the show music so that students can get a handle on their parts and what needs to be worked on.

Wednesday August 8th from 5:30-8:30pm is our review night. We will review and brush up on everything worked on at our spring band camp to prepare for our Summer Band Camp.

Summer Band Camp is August 13th-17th and the 20th -24th in double sessions (9am-12 and 4-8pm) Camp is held at Medford High School and is free of charge. Students will work with our marching band staff to review music and work on the visual aspect of our field show. We get most of our show done in these two weeks so that we can limit our practice time once school is back in session. This allows students time for other activities such as sports, clubs and homework. Our band students often play varsity sports, hold officer positions in clubs, star in drama productions and take AP classes. We have made lots of things work with our band schedule!

Over the last seven years the Marching Band has brought home 56 trophies, been featured on JAMN 94.5, KISS 108, WROR, and walked a PUMA fashion show. We have performed concerts at Fenway Park, Gillette Stadium, Six Flags, Hershey Park and Disney World. We have provided music for The American Cancer Society, The Wounded Warrior Project and The Make A Wish Foundation.

The Medford Band prides itself on providing our students with engaging, high quality musical opportunities and serving our community. We hope that you and your student will join us on our crazy adventure and learn about all of the ways that marching arts can be life changing.

Please feel free to email me with any questions. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone on Monday!
